Anaesthetics
Mike Herbertson
Mike Herbertson has been an anaesthetist/anaesthesiologist for over 20 years. He trained in medicine at the Universities of Oxford and London graduating in 1982. He subsequently trained in anaesthesia in the United Kingdom, Canada and the USA. He has special interests in adult and paediatric orthopaedics, cardiac anaesthesia and adult critical care. In the field of orthopaedic anaesthesia he concentrates on spinal work and is particularly interested in blood conservation and post operative pain relief techniques.

Neil McGill
After training at the Wessex School of Anaesthesia, Dr McGill worked in two world leading centres of clinical excellence as an associate professor in paediatric, cardiothoracic and neurosurgical / spinal anaesthesia. His experience at both the University of Michigan and the University of Chicago gained him an international reputation in anaesthesia. Dr McGill returned to the UK in 2005.
He now works at the Southampton University Hospital. His special interests are in spinal surgical anaesthesia in both children and adults, and thoracic and oesophageal surgical anaesthesia. He has research interests in strategies for avoiding blood transfusion and blood conservation.
