Meet Your Consultant
Mr Nick Boeree has an international reputation in spinal surgery, and is the Lead Consultant at The Spine Clinic
Meet your Consultant: Nick Boeree
Nick Boeree trained in medicine at The Royal London Hospital where he also taught Human Anatomy.
His orthopaedic training was at Bristol and Southampton but the majority of his training in Spinal Surgery took place through two extended fellowships, the first at the Spinal Unit of the Hartshill Orthopaedic Hospital and the second at several of the world's leading spinal centres in the United States. This gave Mr Boeree the opportunity to gain personal training from some of the most eminent spinal surgeons and a depth and breadth of experience that has formed the basis of his personal expertise. This has allowed him to contribute to many of the recent advances and developments in spinal surgery.
Mr Boeree has an international reputation in spinal surgery, having published and lectured widely in areas such as the new dynamic stabilization techniques and minimally invasive spinal surgery. He was the lead clinical investigator in an international study of the Wallis® Stabilization technique and was the principal developer of the STALIF implant, now widely used around the world. He is one of the evaluation surgeons for the new technique of facet joint replacement. Mr Boeree regularly provides training to other surgeons in these and other surgical techniques, such as total disc replacement and the correction of spinal deformity.
Mr Boeree's philosophy for the surgical treatment of lower back problems is underpinned by several guiding principles:
Properly identify the problems in the lower back
Work out an appropriate surgical strategy
Preserve movement where possible
Good fusion techniques when fusion is needed
Nick Boeree's unusual name sometimes provokes some questions. It is a very old Dutch name although his family have lived in England for many generations. Nick lives in Bramshaw in the New Forest with his wife, three children, two dogs, three cats and several chickens. The dark night skies in the Forest allow him to pursue his interest in astronomy. Nick also enjoys sailing and a love affair with his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
My general impressions were that Dr. Boeree was a very kind, thoughtful, honest, articulate, humble, and intelligent person. I got no sense at all of any sort of arrogance from him.
Tim
