Wallis® Dynamic Stabilization
Dynamic stabilization offers a much less invasive alternative to traditional methods and, unlike other procedures, is completely reversible. The wallis implant reduces the abnormal loads through the disc and facet joints.
The Operation
How long does the surgery take?
The minimally invasive nature of the procedure means that it is not a lengthy operation. Wallis® stabilization is often performed as an addition to other procedures, such as decompression of the nerves in the spinal canal or removal of a disc protrusion, and will add a moderate period to these operations.
Where is the incision made?
The patient is positioned face down and a small midline incision is made over the affected level. This will be about 4-5 cm long for a single level operation.
What happens during the procedure?
After making the incision the muscles are moved to the side a little, together with the strong ligament which runs over the spinous processes. Any additional procedures required, such as decompression, are undertaken prior to Wallis® stabilization. An epidural is placed to help with any post-operative pain relief. If the nerve roots have been exposed these are covered with a barrier gel (Adcon-L) to reduce the risk of scarring.
After carefully clearing and fashioning space for the Wallis® implant and selecting the correct size using trials, the bands from the implant are passed around the spinous processes and fixed back to the implant using special clips. The implant is positioned and the bands carefully tightened. Crimps are placed on the bands close to the implant and the excess band cut off.

I’d been seen at my local hospital and had a scan. They said 'it’s just wear and tear, live with it’. Great!! So life has to stop, does it? But the tests you arranged (and quickly I might add) clearly identified the problem, as you were able to show us
